Winter Safety for New York Homeowners

Be prepared for whatever Mother Nature has in store! Winters in this part of the country can be unforgiving, and force us to take safety precautions so we can keep our families and homes secure. Check out this list of safety guidelines that can help you keep your property safe, and help your heating company deliver your fuel on schedule!

1. Plow Your Driveway and Shovel Paths

Plowing or shoveling your driveway is a safety precaution that everyone should take. Not only does this allow fuel delivery drivers in, but it also makes it easier for all vehicles (like visiting friends or emergency responders!) to access your home. If you know you’re getting a fuel delivery, be sure to clear your driveway and a path to your fill pipe. It will allow you a safe and efficient fuel delivery.

2. Order Bioheat® fuel Regularly & Before Traveling

Many NY residents who use Bioheat® fuel travel for the holidays.Although you should be sure to fill your fuel tank every time it gets down to 25% fuel capacity, be sure to also order Bioheat® fuel before you leave for the holidays. The last thing you want to return home to is burst pipes due to freezing temperatures and a fuel runout.

3. Get to Know Your Heating System

You should make sure to have a basic understanding of your heating system and what to do if it stops working. Although many Bioheat® fuel providers offer 24/7 emergency service, some common issues can be trouble-shooted at home first. Read our No Heat Checklist Blog to learn more about what to do if your boiler or furnace stops working.

Have a Safe & Happy Season!

Keep these important winter safety tips in mind as you celebrate the holiday season, and be sure to call your local Bioheat® fuel delivery company if you have any specific questions. Stay safe and warm, and we’ll see you in the New Year!
