What You Need to Know about High-Efficiency Heating

When it comes to weather, New York can be extreme to say the least. Between humid summers and bone-cold winters, affordable comfort is a top priority for homeowners across the state. One easy way to protect your home and your wallet is to make sure your energy equipment is ready for whatever Mother Nature has in store.

What makes a system high efficiency?

A boiler or furnace’s efficiency is measured by annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE). In simple terms, this rating represents how much heat the system gives off, taking into account the energy consumed by the system’s operation. High-efficiency heating systems typically share these positive characteristics:

  • 90% to 98.5% AFUE
  • Sealed combustion
  • ENERGY STAR® approval

Why upgrade to high efficiency?

When you heat or cool with higher efficiency equipment that translates to more effective energy output. This can deliver significant benefits to your property, our environment, and your comfort.

  • Improved year-round comfort
  • Lower annual energy costs
  • Reduced risk of equipment malfunction
  • Lower emissions

When is it time to upgrade?

How old is your heating system? If your boiler or furnace is more than 15 years old, you can save 30% to 50% on heating costs with new energy efficient appliances. Upgrading to new equipment is particularly important if your heating system’s stack temperature is over 500°.  Downtime between heating seasons is the perfect window to for an easy upgrade.

When you switch to a new, high-efficiency heating system this spring, you can:

  • Take advantage of state rebates
  • Fill up with Bioheat® fuel at lower, off-season rates
  • Easily schedule installation before the autumn rush

It pays to plan ahead! Upgrade your home heating system to high-efficiency equipment this spring to save money from season to season.
